First-Year Experience supports the academic, social and personal transitions of all first-year students. Through collaborative efforts with faculty, staff and peer educators, we empower and support first-year students by providing intentional courses, programs and services that promote success and persistence in college.
WU101: The Washburn Experience
WU101, a required three-credit hour course, is designed to help you quickly find your scholarly identity at Washburn, while helping you develop a sound graduation plan.
WU101 classes are small, from 25 to 35 students, and are team-taught by a faculty member, academic advisor, librarian and two student peer educators. The team helps first-year students transition to college life through four components:

WU101 class topics include:
• iREAD: A common book reading experience
• Getting involved on campus
• Information literacy
• Ethics and values
• Study skills
• Communicating professionally
with faculty/staff
• Time management
• Academic support services
